  8. Rodime’s New Software Driver Enhances Read Transfer Rates of Cobra™ Hard Disk

  12.     BOCA RATON, FLA.--January 17,1990--Rodime Systems today introduced a
  13. proprietary new software drive for the company's Cobra series of high-capacity,
  14. 3.5-inch Winchester disk drive products that results in dramatically reduced
  15. access times and increased read transfer rates an average of 40 times faster
  16. than the standard 5KB per second.

  18.     Designed to improve the interface between Macintosh computers and Rodime's
  19. Cobra disk drives, the software enhances the Cobra drives' caching ability,
  20. which ranges from 16K to 48K and allows the disk drive to predict which piece
  21. of information the user will want to use next.  Using a new algorithm, it
  22. increases the availability of the user's data in "instant access" RAM (Random
  23. Access Memory).  Product performance was evaluated using industry standard
  24. benchmark tests with the Cobra 45e operating on a Macintosh IIci, using a 1:1
  25. interleave.

  27.     The Cobra internal and external high-capacity disk drives include 45,70,100
  28. and 210MB of storage, 18ms access time, and SCSI interface.  According to
  29. Timothy E. Mahoney, Vice President and Director of Sales and Marketing, the
  30. Cobra drives have secured a significant place in the market.

  32.     "Response from our customers to the Cobra product has been tremendous, in
  33. terms of market acceptance and performance," Mahoney says.  "It is our premier
  34. product, and we are committed to providing enhancements that enable Cobra
  35. 'power users' to gain faster access times and greater performance from the disk
  36. drives."

  38.     Currently, the software is being shipped with all Cobra disk drives.
  39. Present owners of Cobra drives may receive the upgraded software by returning
  40. the current diskette to Rodime's Technical Support department (901 Broken Sound
  41. Parkway N.W., Boca Raton, Florida 33487) with a self-addressed, stamped disk
